4 Powerful Steps to Rise Above the Pull of Procrastination

Ways to beat procrastination

Procrastination is one of those inconspicuous problems which people easily underestimate. We think of it as an innocent bad habit, when it’s actually a stumbling-block to growth and progress. Even though procrastination is common to everyone, if it starts becoming a daily routine, it can result in lasting negative effects. Business Writer Nadia Goodman suggests that “learning to beat procrastination will make you more productive. We all procrastinate occasionally, but chronic procrastinators put off almost everything they have to do… about 20 percent of the global population can be classified as chronic procrastinators.” The bad news is that it’s impossible not to procrastinate every now and then. The good news though, is that chronic procrastination can be eliminated from your life with a little effort.

Time Management - Get Rid of Procrastination

Strategies for overcoming procrastination

Here are a few tips how:

1) Work in a Conducive Environment

The more you can concentrate on a given task, the better of an outcome you’ll have when you’re finished. Avoid working on projects in environments where people, noise or media can distract you. If you need silence, work in silence. If you need white-noise, play something in the background to keep you energized.

2) Don’t Celebrate till You’re Finished

Regardless of what you might be working on, stopping every now and then to take stock of a project often causes distractions. It diverts your attention from the ultimate goal of your work. Unless what you’re working on is meticulous, save the victory lap for after you’re finished.

3) Coordinate Your Tasks

It’s always a good idea to tackle difficult activities in a project while energy levels are high. Instead of putting off what intimidates you for later, do it while you still have the momentum to power through. Prioritize your work in a way that maximizes productivity.

4) Schedule Your Time

When faced with an ambitious task, break it down to small goals that you intend to accomplish in structured intervals of time. Diving in without a schedule can easily overwhelm you if you aren’t sure of yourself. Time-management enhances focus and consistency.

Conclusion

Life doesn’t feel good if you spend most of your time doing things down to the wire. Procrastination is more than just a bad habit. It’s a symptom of your inner emotional state. Rather than allowing yourself to succumb to that emotion, be bold and confront it. Choose to be structured and resilient about the way you approach your work.  If you like what you just read from our blog, you’ll love the various informative courses, workshops and events listed on our websites and social media.
