7 DOs and DON’Ts on What it Takes to Age Gracefully
May 26, 2021How to age gracefully?
Different people have different goals in life. But if there’s one thing all of humanity has in common, it’s that every person wants to live till we’re old and gray. Be that as it may, thinking about old age, and actually making it to old age, are two completely different feats. In order to live a long life, it’s vital to make healthy and constructive decisions way before the sunset years kick in. Lifestyle Writer Rachael Rettner advises that “It's never too late to start leading a healthier lifestyle. Even well into their 60s and 70s, adults can take action to reduce the risk of developing chronic disease… there are lots of things you can do to improve your function, and your health, well into older age.”
Here are a few practical tips on how to live a full, long life:
1) DO get Friendly with Your Doctor
No matter how old you might be today, make a commitment to get annual checkups, without fail, for the rest of your life. This is a great way to jumpstart healthy living.
2) DON’T Make Enemies
The majority of daily stress that people go through stems from conflict in relationships. Conflict which is completely avoidable. If you want to be happy, do everything in your power to get along with people, and be a decent human being.
3) DO Stop Smoking
Cigarettes and tobacco are single-handedly responsible for disrupting millions of lives. Whether it’s from firsthand, or secondhand smoke, say NO to cigarettes.
4) DON’T Stop Learning
Mental faculties play a huge role in our will to live. If you want to find purpose and meaning in life, educate yourself eternally. Take joy in enlightenment.
5) DO Dream Big
Life is boring and predictable without ambition. Chasing big goals keeps us motivated and energized to get out of bed every morning, and seize the day.
6) DON’T Eat Junk Food
The older we get, the slower our bodies metabolize. Make tiny adjustments to the way you eat throughout every decade of your life. Don’t be afraid to savor fruits and vegetables.
7) DO Hit the Gym
If there’s one secret weapon to living a long life, its diet and exercise. Keep your body active, keep your body moving, and invest in whatever is necessary to stay fit.
