Workout Often? These 5 Injuries Could Happen Again and Again if You Donā€™t Exercise Cautiously

Everybody wants to keep fit.  Everybody understands that exercise should be a prominent part of healthy living.  But, being overzealous with exercise can actually put people in jeopardy.  Especially if showboating and recklessness are put into practice.  If and when you exercise, remember that the body has limits.  Don’t push yourself so much that you end up harming the body you’re trying to strengthen.

Negligence Can Ruin Your Life:

Health Writer Carol Sorgen cautions that “Jumping, running, and even standing carelessly can increase your risk of tripping and falling. Be aware of your surroundings when exercising. Watch for items that you might trip over. Be especially careful in wet areas around showers, pools, and hot tubs, where you're more likely to slip and fall.” Here are a few typical examples of preventable fitness injuries:

1.    Hyperextended Knees:

This is an injury that’s very common when people use weight machines to train their legs.  Be careful about letting the knee joint lock when your legs are supporting a lot of weight.

2.    Sprained Ankles:

Sprained ankles can happen for a multitude of reasons.  But they often happen because of ill-fitting shoes.  If you’re going to work out or do anything active, make sure the shoes you’re wearing are form-fitting.

3.    Vertigo:

People also get dizzy or nauseated when working out for a variety of reasons.  But it’s usually due to a combination of overexertion and malnutrition.  Pace yourself both with food, and physicality.

4.    Cramps:

Cramps are a form of muscle spasm triggered by a buildup of lactic acid in muscles/tissues.  The best way to prevent cramps is by staying hydrated and nourishing the body with electrolytes.

5.    Blisters:

Blisters usually happen when the skin is forced to stay in a folded position for long periods of time.  They’re a form of inflammation caused by heat and friction.  The best way to circumvent blisters is by wearing protective gear.

Conclusion:

The most important thing to do when exercising is situational awareness.  Beyond counting sets and reps, listen to your body.  And keep an eye out for any safety hazards that could be looming around you.  If you ever feel fatigued, slow down so that you can catch your breath.  If you ever feel pinches of pain, modify what you’re doing to alleviate it.  Discomfort is a warning sign that the body is reaching a breaking point with pressure.
